The Primavera Sound, or simply Primavera, is an annual music festival held in many venues in different countries. In 2022, a Primavera event was held for the first time in the vibrant city of Santiago, the capital of Chile. It was undoubtedly imperative to implement an efficient and intelligent security system that is easy to deploy on the site and can help prevent incidents, detect and deal with urgent situations in time, and ensure the overall safety of all attendees, performers and staff during the festival.
Challenges
For such an event that involves a huge number of people, preventing accidents and security-related events in the venue could be very challenging. As one of the largest parks in Santiago, the Bicentenario Park can accommodate a huge crowd people. The wide-area coverage requirement and huge crowd density make it difficult to monitor and deal with any abnormalities in time, such as unusual movements of crowd, fires, etc. There is also a perimeter fence around the venue where unauthorized people could climb over to sneak into the festival, which can drastically compromise the safety and security of everyone during the festival. With a massive flow of people entering and leaving the venue, it is difficult to accurately count the number of people on site and determine their distribution in real time. If an incident occurs, it would be difficult to dispatch the security staff immediately since they are all scattered around the venue. Another major concern is the deployment of the security system – it must be done within a week.
Solution
Panoramic cameras were deployed for wide-scene HD monitoring in real-time, greatly reducing the number of devices needed and significantly improving the system deployment efficiency.
Moreover, AI-powered cameras with intelligent functions were also installed in key areas to help ensure the safety of the crowd. Cameras with People Counting function accurately count the number of people and crowd density in each area in real time, which helps prevent stampede or other incidents that can affect public safety. The Perimeter Protection and Key Points Patrol functions can effectively detect intrusion, while the thermal camera can intelligently distinguish temperature abnormalities around the area to help prevent emergencies such as fires.
In addition, a fully equipped command center was also immediately set up, consisting of spring brackets, high-protection-level display screens, control keyboards, and decoding boxes. MPT body cameras were also utilized to realize rapid and accurate dispatch of the security personnel when needed.
