Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) has become a household terminology these past years. Monitoring proper wearing of uniform, head gear and face mask is crucial to minimize exposure to risks and hazards in workplaces like construction sites and plants. Despite its importance, it is not uncommon to see some workers skipping out on wearing PPE at work, putting themselves and others at risk. A study conducted by the Occupational Safety and Health Organization (OSHA) indicates that in 2019, 5,333 workers died from work-related injuries in the United States, with 20.7% of those fatalities occurring in the construction industry. Several of these fatalities were caused by falling, being struck by objects, electrocutions, or incidents – risks that can be effectively mitigated with proper use of PPE.

The AI-powered PPE detection function of the Dahua WizMind offers an intelligent solution to monitor proper wearing of PPE in worksites at all times. Here’s Mr. Ron, Product Manager at Dahua Technology to tell us more about it.

Hi Ron! Please briefly explain what the PPE function is all about.

Sure. The Personal Protective Equipment function, commonly called PPE, is responsible for detecting workplace rules such as the safety hat, work attire and mask. The Dahua PPE Detection technology uses a deep learning algorithm to detect and capture images of personal protective equipment on the site and sends alarm notifications accordingly.

What new features does the latest PPE function have that make it different from the previous ones?

The main difference between these two AI-powered Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is that the Dahua deep learning algorithm allows importing of work clothes images as a basic database for localized modeling, training and comparison for a flexible and user-friendly operation. It enables the front-end intelligent PPE+IVS/privacy protection, while the other does not.

What are the specific areas of concern that the PPE may address?

Some employees may not wear protective equipment in high-risk work sites due to ineffective management or security. As a result, preventable accidents could occur, leading to immeasurable losses. Our PPE detection function can be applied to construction sites, factories, production workshops, and other similar scenarios. It uses noncontact detection to alert employers of dress code violations, making enforcing safety practices with employees easier.

What value does it bring?

Using our PPE detection function and 24/7 uninterrupted monitoring, you can improve safety detection and save money on labor management costs. It can help ensure the safety of your employees while also increasing production and efficiency for you.
