Background
The Wave, England’s first inland surfing destination set across 70 acres of South Gloucestershire countryside, attracts thousands of thrill-seekers, families, and water sports enthusiasts. With a vast site encompassing artificial surf lakes, visitor facilities, and event spaces, The Wave’s management team recognised the need for a major upgrade to their existing security infrastructure. Faced with the challenge of maintaining 24/7 safety across a sprawling area where traditional staffing methods were impractical, The Wave enlisted the help of Smart Integrated Solutions to design and install a fully modernised surveillance
system. Their mission: to deliver complete situational awareness, ensure lake and perimeter safety, and support both day-to-day operations and long-term staff development.
Solution
Smart Integrated Solutions turned to Dahua Technology to deliver a robust, integrated security ecosystem capable of meeting The Wave’s complex requirements. The installation features a comprehensive suite of Dahua surveillance technology, including advanced thermal cameras
(TPC-BF5601-S2, TPC-SD5641-T, TPC-BF2241-T), 8MP PTZ cameras (SD49825GB-HNR and SD5A825GA-HNR), IP audio devices (VCS-SH30), and the DSS Pro platform for seamless monitoring and control.
The solution provides full coverage of both internal and external areas of the 70-acre site. Utilising high-definition video and intelligent video analytics, the system actively supports perimeter detection, health and safety oversight, and crowd monitoring. Crucially, the inclusion of remote monitoring capabilities via ARC ensures operational continuity even during out-of-hours periods. Thermal imaging and PTZ technologies are paired with IP speakers to allow for proactive deterrence, enabling real-time, voice-triggered responses to developing situations. With clear visual coverage and an intuitive interface, security staff can easily access footage, monitor live feeds, and quickly respond to incidents, all from a centralised platform.

The results have been transformative. The Wave now benefits from round-the-clock clarity and control, enabling their team to manage safety proactively without being physically present at every corner of the site.
