Advanced Security Upgrade Strengthens Safety and Security at Community Facility
Case Study Background
YMCA Fairthorne Group operates a large-scale community facility where the safety of residents, staff and property is a constant priority. As a charity for young people facing unstable housing, the site requires reliable surveillance to support crime prevention, property protection and Health & Safety responsibilities across a diverse and busy environment.
ARC Fire Safety & Security was engaged to replace an ageing analogue COAX system that was no longer fit for purpose. The existing installation produced grainy images that limited identification and evidence gathering, while the physical size of the site and known blind spots created further challenges for effective monitoring. The project required a modern IP-based solution capable of delivering higher image quality, improved coverage and a scalable foundation for future requirements.
The Solution
ARC Fire Safety & Security partnered with Dahua to deploy a high-definition IP surveillance platform designed to improve coverage, clarity and operational consistency across the site. The upgraded system is built around DHI-DSSPRO8 and a DHI-NVR5864-EI WizMind recorder, providing centralised video management and a more robust foundation for day-to-day monitoring. A range of Dahua TiOC 2.0 and WizMind cameras were installed throughout the facility to eliminate previous blind spots and provide clearer, more reliable video evidence.
TiOC technology was specified as standard to deliver high-quality image recording alongside active deterrence features, while panoramic and multi-sensor cameras were used to strengthen coverage in wider areas. PTZ cameras were also introduced to support active tracking and long-range monitoring across key parts of the site (featuring specialized modules such as Dahua’s DH-SDT6C425 X-Spans Dual-Light PTZ Camera, DH-SD49425GB PTZ Camera, and DH-IPC-PDW3849-A180 Dual-Splicing TiOC Camera).
To overcome the challenges presented by the size of the property and difficult cabling routes, ARC Fire Safety & Security created a dedicated CCTV network using Dahua PFS3226-24ET-240 and PFS3117-16ET-135 Managed PoE switches. This approach enabled stable data transmission and power across the entire site footprint, supporting a full transition from legacy analogue infrastructure to a future-ready IP ecosystem. The system also provides flexibility for future feature activation, including audio recording.
The project also ensures consistency with the client’s wider property portfolio, where Dahua equipment is already in use, making the system more familiar and easier to manage across multiple locations. With future-proof infrastructure, active deterrence capability and expandable intelligent features already in place, the new platform provides a reliable and scalable foundation for the organisation’s evolving operational needs.

The Result
The completed system has delivered a significant improvement in image quality, site-wide visibility and overall protection across the YMCA Fairthorne Group facility. By replacing the previous analogue COAX infrastructure with a modern Dahua IP solution, the installation has eliminated former blind spots and greatly improved the clarity of recorded footage, helping the charity strengthen both crime prevention and Health & Safety monitoring.
The client now has a system that eliminates previous blind spots and provides significantly improved image quality compared to the old ‘grainy’ footage, ensuring better protection for both the residents and the property.”
