Cheltenham Racecourse, operated by The Jockey Club, required a modern security solution to support the safety and security of both race participants and large event crowds through their security provider TekSafe Site Solutions.

As one of the UK’s most prestigious horse racing venues, the racecourse faces a unique set of operational challenges, including the management of high volumes of visitors and the protection of critical areas for jockeys and horses.

The racecourse sought a system that could improve crowd management, enhance overall safety, and deter criminal or anti-social activity. It also needed to meet the venue’s responsibility to ensure the welfare of its staff and attendees during major events.

The Solution

Dahua Technology partnered with the site’s security team, TekSafe Site Solutions, to deliver a comprehensive security system integrating both internal and external coverage across the racecourse. At the heart of the installation is the Dahua DSS Pro platform, providing centralised management and seamless monitoring.

High-performance SD5 Series PTZ cameras, including the SD5A425GB-HNR, were deployed to oversee wide areas. These 4MP cameras feature 25x optical zoom, low-light imaging and intelligent functions including Auto Tracking 3.0, deep-learning based perimeter protection and SMD 4.0, ensuring precise tracking and detection in all conditions.

These were complemented by Dahua IPC 3 Series fixed-focal eyeball cameras, including the IPC-HDW3549H-AS-PV with Smart Dual Light and Active Deterrence. They provide clear imaging, alarms and intelligent detection to help prevent incidents. Combined with the PTZ cameras, the system delivers full situational awareness and reliable monitoring across the racecourse.

The installation was complex due to the site’s size and the need for full internal and external access. Minor issues with product availability and a small number of faulty units were quickly resolved, keeping the project on track. Dahua was selected for its quality, reliability and advanced technology, meeting the high demands of a major sporting venue.
