Dahua Smart City Summit at Tomorrow.City Shanghai: Shaping Smarter and More Sustainable Urban Development

Dahua Technology, a world-leading video-centric AIoT solution and service provider, hosted a Smart City Summit on September 23 under the theme “Together for a Sustainable Future”. The event brought together public sector representatives, city administrators, industry experts and ecosystem partners from Southeast Asia, Iberia and Latin America, to exchange perspectives on how AIoT and digital technologies can address practical urban challenges and support safer, more efficient and sustainable cities.
As smart city development evolves from individual technologies to interconnected approaches that bring together infrastructure, data, services and diverse stakeholders, cross-sector collaboration becomes imperative. The Summit serves as a vital platform for sharing knowledge and practical experience to shape solutions across diverse urban contexts, reinforcing Dahua’s commitment to co-creating smarter, more resilient and people-centered cities with partners worldwide.
Charting a Shared Vision for Tomorrow’s Cities
Mr. Bob Chen, Senior Vice President & President of Global Business at Dahua Technology, set the tone by outlining the company’s vision for smarter cities, anchored on three priorities: safety, efficiency and resilience. He emphasized that technology must ultimately empower urban governance and enrich people's lives, recognizing that every city has its unique priorities and developmental trajectory.
“That is why we believe cooperation begins with listening,” said Mr. Chen. “We start with local needs, work together to define clear goals, and develop a practical path forward. Through ongoing service and improvement, we seek to ensure that each investment delivers lasting value.”
Mr. YB Tuan Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Housing and Local Government of Malaysia, also delivered an opening address, stressing that smart cities must prioritize safety, resilience and livability over technological showmanship. Notably, he cited Dahua’s AI traffic management system on the Penang Second Bridge as a prime example of practical innovation, and invited global tech partners to collaborate with the Malaysian delegation on future pilot projects.
Dahua’s AIoT-Powered Solutions for Real Urban Challenges
In the keynote session, Jim Ni, Solution Manager at Dahua's Global Government Business Department, presented the company’s smart city portfolio and approach to applying AIoT and emerging technologies to urban operations. Ni noted that Dahua’s approach is to make intelligent technology the tool and people-centered services the goal. Guided by its “One City, One Planning” philosophy, Dahua tailors solutions to meet each city’s unique governance and public service needs. The portfolio is built on a “1+1+1+N+2” architecture and a City Operation Brain, covering public safety, urban governance, mobility, traffic and environmental protection.
Powered by Dahua’s Xinghan Large-scale AI Models, a next-generation, industry-grade AI system integrating visual, multimodal, and language intelligence, the solutions are supported by 1,600+ mature algorithms and end-edge-cloud computing. Real-world applications range from rapid missing-person searches, traffic signal optimization and multimodal highway incident analysis to biodiversity monitoring, waste-sorting supervision, and AI-assisted disaster response.
Together, these practices show how AI can be seamlessly embedded into daily operations to build safer, greener, and more resilient cities. “The ultimate goal of AI is not the technology itself, but to enable every industry to enjoy the benefits of intelligence,” said Ni.
Scaling Smart City Solutions Across the Globe
The summit also highlighted Dahua’s smart city deployments beyond China, demonstrating how its AIoT capabilities can be adapted to local urban needs. With more than 900 smart city solutions delivered across 70 countries and regions, Dahua continues to scale proven practices globally.
In Campeche, Mexico, intelligent signal control across 34 intersections and seven green-wave corridors now handles around 20% more traffic volume while cutting waiting times by about 15%, with local training enabling continued optimization. Meanwhile, in Coahuila, the smart city project improved the state’s safety index and was replicated in five other projects.
In Brazil’s Espírito Santo state, a highway solution covering 7,250 km with 1,650 HD cameras and 90 mobile weighing devices helped reduce vehicle overloading by 60% and recover $300–500 million in annual economic losses.
Saudi Arabia has adopted Dahua’s full-stack smart city solution, combining citywide IoT sensing devices with a central platform that integrates sensing, AI, big data analytics and intelligent scheduling to support public safety, traffic management and emergency response.
From Experience to Partnership
The summit also served as a collaborative forum for government officials and industry experts to exchange real-world insights. Ms. Marulina Dewi Mutiara, S.STP., MPA, Head of the Department of Communications, Informatics, Statistics, and Digital Government at DKI Jakarta, showcased Jakarta’s initiatives in developing a smart global city through integrated urban surveillance, AI-driven CCTV analytics, IoT-based flood control systems, and public digital services (e.g., JAKI super-app), all of which align closely with Dahua’s AIoT portfolio. During the networking session, attendees engaged in deeper exchanges with Dahua’s team, exploring tailored deployment of its solutions to address local challenges and paving the way for future strategic cooperation.
